MORE ABOUT HISTORYThere are two choirs performing in the Bialowieza parish. They might be listened to in the church during celebrations and other religious events. The first one consists of senior singers, whereas the second is composed of young adults, students and pupils.
The Youth Choir was created in 1993 by Jerzy Kulik, director of the main choir at the time. From the beginning, the choir performed not only religious compositions, but as well popular folk songs from Russia, Ukraine and Byelorussia. The choir has long represented Podlasie region and orthodox cultural music in the medias. It also performed for great names of polish cultural life, as the Nobel Prize winner Czeslaw Milosz.
The choir was a constant participant at Hajnowka Orthodox Music Festival. At the 1998 edition it won a prize and the following year it was recognized the best choir in parish choirs section. The same year, the choir gave concerts in the churches from the Lake Geneva region in Switzerland. In 1999 the choir was awarded the second place at Terespol Christmas Music Festival. In 2002 our choir was again a winner at Hajnowka. It was awarded the prize founded by the Polish senator Eugeniusz Czykwin, who is also the chief editor of The Orthodox Magazine.
In 2006 the Bialowieza choir won the 3rd prize at the Hajnowka festival, having as a director Marcin Aleksiejuk, new director since 2003. As from 25th of June current year, the choir is directed by Father Waldemar Piotrowski.
As from 1995, the choir is co-organising ecumenical Christmas concerts which take place at Bialowieza Cultural Centre.
The choir composed of senior singers won the St Mary Madeleine 3rd degree medal.
